Marsh-marigold (Caltha palustris)
As their name suggests Marsh-marigold is found of wet, marshy
places including fens. It is a sturdy plant which from March
to June develops flowers which resemble those of buttercups
but larger at up to 5cm across. Its flowers are waxy in appearance,
being made up only from bright yellow sepals and no petals.
It is widespread throughout Northern Ireland.
